Carl Icahn pressuring McDonald’s to improve welfare of pigs raised for meat

Carl Icahn – an activist investor known like Fink for tearing businesses down and selling them for parts while workers suffer – has launched a war against McDonald’s on behalf of the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS). Icahn wants the Golden Arches to start buying pork produced without the use of maternity pens, which are used to house pregnant sows. Icahn and the vegans at HSUS believe the crates are too small, despite veterinarians and farmers repeatedly saying otherwise. Only about 4 percent of the U.S. pork supply is currently produced in pens that would meet Icahn’s demands, meaning higher prices and supply chain pains for McDonald’s if it is bullied into agreeing to Icahn’s demands.
