Florida House passes bill stripping Disney of self governing status
For decades, Disney has been able to occupy a portion of Orlando under self-governance. The deal allowed the company to enforce its own laws and skirt many taxes that would come with being part of the city. The sweetheart deal went unnoticed for many years, but Disney’s recent woke outbursts against Florida’s parental rights legislation caught the attention of local lawmakers who re-analyzed the deal. On Thursday, the issue was bought before the state legislature where lawmakers voted to strip Disney of its self-governance policy. Perhaps the company would have had more time to fight the change if it wasn’t so focused on its woke agenda.
