Hollywood Insiders Warn Woke Oscars Policy Could Destroy Industry
Following the #OscarsSoWhite controversy, the Academy announced that any “best picture” nominee must meet certain diversity quotas to be considered. The policy won’t be official until 2024, but many production companies have already adopted the standard. In turn, agents have been forced to drop many of their white male actors because films simply can’t hire them and meet the quotas. Some worry this may result in discrimination lawsuits from white actors. “This is all going to end in a giant class-action lawsuit,” one showrunner said.
