It took a war for the pooh-bahs of the Olympics and world soccer to show a slight backbone.
This week, the International Olympic Committee and FIFA finally stepped out in their fluffy five-star hotel bathrobes to bar Russian athletes and teams from international competition—the IOC issuing a stern recommendation, FIFA installing a full ban. The International Paralympic Committee reversed an earlier decision and will prohibit Russian and Belarusian Paralympians from competing as “neutrals” in the Paralympic Games, which begin Friday.
