USA Today demoted me for a tweet — because its woke newsrooms are out of touch with readers
David Mastio, the former editor of USA Today’s opinion page, said he was demoted and eventually pressured to resign after tweeting that only women can have babies. Apparently, that was an opinion the opinion editor was not allowed to have. A few months after leaving the paper, its parent organization Gannett – which owns more than 250 newsrooms throughout the country – announced that it would be drastically reducing its opinion section in most papers and eliminating it in several others. Mastio said this failure is because of its woke policies, writing, “[Gannett] lost control of its newsrooms, which are writing off half their potential readers to pursue activist staffers’ narrow political agendas. It won’t be long before that hits the bottom line — if it hasn’t already.”
